About AVIF
AVIF is a modern image format based on the AV1 video codec. At similar quality it is often smaller than WebP and JPG, and it supports transparency. More and more websites serve their images as AVIF, but many programs, photo services and upload forms cannot open it yet.

Why do I have AVIF files?
Websites increasingly serve their images as AVIF, because the files are small and load fast. When you save such an image, you get an .avif file, which older software, photo printing services and many forms do not accept yet.
What if my browser cannot open AVIF?
The conversion uses your browser’s own AVIF support, which all current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari have. In an older browser you get a clear message instead; update your browser and try again.
What happens to transparent areas?
They become white, because JPG cannot store transparency. To keep a transparent background, convert AVIF to PNG instead.
Does converting AVIF to JPG reduce quality?
JPG uses compression, but at the default quality of 90% you will not see a difference. Move the quality slider down for smaller files, or up for images with fine text.
Can I convert multiple AVIF files at once?
